I can’t remember when I started to make clothes for my self and my dolls, but I must have been around five years old when my mother showed me how to use the sewing machine. That was a revelation and made it all so much easier!
I do however remember when I understood why I really like to make clothes and costumes. One of the first years in Florence a friend of a friend, a beautiful German girl, asked me to make her a flaming red and ivory outfit with dress, shirt, coat and hat because she had fallen in love with a musician and wanted to be dressed like that when she went to his concert.
It was an incredible experience to design, hand sew and create the “person“ she wanted to be that evening.
